Brown Bears Rock the Sports Center

Your Kenai River Brown Bears shook up The Soldotna Regional Sports Center on Saturday night, flustering the Louisiana Shreveport Mudbugs with their tenacious play. The Home Opener on Friday night did not go quite as the Bears planned with an unexpected loss late in the game, 6-2 Mudbugs, but at puck drop on Saturday that loss was just a distant memory. The bears came out on fire with Sutton McDonald burying the first goal of the night and igniting the home crowd. Though Shreveport’s Cameron Cook tied it up late in the first, their goal only seem to fan the fire Mcdonald started. Luke Radetic, and then David Kaplan both scored in quick succession, and the Sports Center crowd responded letting the Bears know they were in the House. Second period play showed Shreveport tie it up at 3-3 with a mid period goal by Brendan Van Sweden but the Bears weren’t done for their Home Town Fans, they came out in the third looking tough and ready to play, and play tough they did. With less then three minutes left to play the Mudbugs pulled ahead on a goal by Jay Feiwell, but the Bears answered less than a minute later with Connor Scahill lighting the lamp and the crowd up, and sending the game into Overtime. Overtime produced no goals and the ensuing shootout brought the crowd to the edge of their seats. It was a Goalie battle, Gavin Enright against Gustavs Grigals with both turning away shooter after shooter. Just when the suspense seemed too much to “bear,” the Bears called up Emils Ezitis who skated to Grigals net with a face of calm and slung one into the back of it with finality….And the Crowd went wild. Game Over! Bears win!
