Brown Bears Drop an Up and Down Game to Magicians
The Kenai River Brown Bears traveled to Richfield, Minnesota to play a set of Mid West Division games against the Minnesota Magicians. The first period started off with both teams feeling one another out on the ice and each team attempting nine shots. However, the Brown Bears found themselves down by a goal at the end.
In the second period, the Bears were faced with a double minor to kill off and just two minutes in, Brown Bear Maurin Bouvet, scored shorthanded. The second period was back and forth. It seemed that each time the Brown Bears would tie the game up, the Magicians would regain control. The period ended with the Brown Bears out shooting the Magicians 30-21 and a tie score. Brown Bears scoring in the second period were: Sam Carlson (Berglund, Andrews, PPG), Jack Gessert (Berglund, Andrews, PPG), and Tyler Andrews (Usov, Bouvet).
During the third period, the Brown Bears continued to fire the puck on net. They out shot the Magicians 15 to 11, but Magician goaltender, Vaughan Ahrens, stood tall and turned aside all third period shots he faced. The Magicians added two third period goals to add to the strong play of Ahrens.
The Brown Bears ended the game with 45 shots on net and their goalie, Zach Quinn, finished with 26 saves on 32 shots. The Bears get right back to work tomorrow, at 7:05 PM Central time (4:05 PM Alaska time), against the Magicians, where they look to earn a series split for the weekend.
