The weekend approaches Brown Bear Nation! Thursday is always a good day, it means the Bears are getting ready to take the ice, and their fans can check out this weeks spotlights to learn a little bit more about the guys who proudly call themselves Brown Bears! This week on “player Spotlights” we highlight part of the Bear’s defensive “WALL.” Gavin Enright in the net, and Connor Scahill who smashes those flimsy opposing forwards that try to get under Gavin’s skin! It’s been a busy week for Gavin and Connor and they, for sure, are glad Thursday has arrived! Besides hockey practice this week, Gavin spent some time at Redoubt Elementary , and Connor hung out at Soldotna Elementary working, and mentoring groups of young kids! Most of the team lent their time to our local Elementary schools this past week and I can’t think of a better bunch of guys to show our young people that hard work pays off! I’m sure if you ask them, Connor and Gavin will have alot to say about where they spent their off ice time ! There has been work at the Soldotna Visitor’s Center getting ready for tourist season that the team has pitched in for , and again they are stepping up helping individual community members with moving help. Also on the agenda for Gavin, Connor and the team was their skills workshops with KPHA young hockey players. Who better than Gavin to teach our young goalies how to be quick and focused? And we all know what Connor taught our young defensive skaters! Play the body not the puck!!! The Lone Star Brahmas are coming to town and hold third place in the South Division, so strap on your boots and head over to the Sports Center for some extremely fast hockey! And don’t forget to BE LOUD when you see Connor and Gavin take the ice! They’re gonna want to hear some noise to get pumped up!

Do you have any pre-game rituals? What are they? I take a nap, get up and go to the rink, then juggle and stretch and then get my gear on and visualize
When did you start playing hockey and why do you keep playing? I started hockey at 5 years old and I started playing Goalie at age 7. I keep playing hockey because I love playing it and it is something I have a lot of passion for
What position do you play and why do you like that position? I am a Goalie and I love playing goalie because it is a unique position in the game and I’ve loved playing goalie since I was young because of Niklas Backstrom, who was an old Minnesota Wild goalie
What is your dream job? To play hockey and get paid to play.
If you can’t have your dream job what other job are you interested in? I would love to be a a part of Sports Medicine or Nursing jobs
Who’s winning the Stanley Cup this year? Minnesota Wild for sure.
Anything else interesting about you? My Team calls me Gavo but when I play back in Minnesota everyone calls me G-Money.
If you had to give one piece of advice to the kids in our community what would you say to them? Work hard at everything you do because being a hard worker is a great attribute for you to have and it will bring you to success in the future.
