Recap of First Three Days of NAHL Showcase

Day 1:

New Mexico 5 vs. Kenai River 0 – Ice Wolves goalie Beni Halasz stopped all 20 shots that came his way for his first shutout of the season as the Ice Wolves dominated with a 5-0 win. New Mexico opened the scoring in the 1st period with the first of two goals in the game from Nikolai Dulak. JD Metz scored in the 2nd period to make it 2-0. In the 3rd period, the Ice Wolves scored three more times, including another from Dulak and others from Wilmer Svensson and Alex Gomez to complete the 5-0 win. Brown Bears goalie Bryant Marks made 28 saves in the loss.

Day 2:

Kenai River 2 vs. Johnstown 1 – Brown Bears goalie Nathan Dickey made 31 saves to lead Kenai River to their first win of the season as they beat Johnstown, 2-1. The Brown Bears got on the board first as Gramm McCormack scored halfway through the 1st period. Johnstown had an answer later in the period to make it 1-1 on a goal from Dustin Geregach. In the 2nd period the Brown Bears netted the game-winner as David Vieten scored a power play goal. Tomahawks goalie Karsten Bourgoine made 17 saves in the loss.

Day 3:

Maine 3 vs. Kenai River 2 – The Nordiques jumped out to a lead and hung on to defeat the Brown Bears, 3-2. After a scoreless 1st period, the Nordiques took a 2-0 lead with two goals in the 2nd period from Reese Farrell and Tyler Gaulin. In the 3rd period, the Brown Bears made it a one-goal game on a tally from David Vieten, but Farrell would net the eventual game-winner midway through the 3rd period. Gramm McCormack scored the other goal for Kenai River. Maine goalie Avery Sturtz made 20 saves in the win, while Nathan Dickey made 18 saves in the loss.

The Brown Bears wrap up the NAHL Showcase on Saturday against the North Iowa Bulls before traveling to play the Minnesota Wilderness on September 24th and 25th.
